An observant Jewish friend of mine relayed this story to me.

It was Friday night and the Sabbath had already come in and his son had an asthma attack. Unfortunately, his son’s puffer was empty and my friend couldn’t go to a Pharmacy to get a new one because of the Shabbat restriction of not driving or carrying money. So, he continues his story by telling me he walked to his friend who lived nearby. That person did not have a puffer (the wife has breathing issues). At the very moment my friend was going to leave, a next-door neighbor, who was a doctor, drove up his driveway, returning home. My friend told the doctor about his predicament and she reached into her bag and pulled out a new puffer. And amazingly, this puffer had two chambers- one with a steroid and the other a non-steroid.

My friend looked at me and said, “What a miracle!! If I had come five minutes earlier to my friend’s house or had left five minutes later, I would have missed the doctor. So I thanked the Creator/God/Cosmos, etc., for creating this miracle for my son not to suffer unduly.”

Why a Miracle? Because Kabbalah does not recognize the existence of coincidence (everything is Cause and Effect) and nothing is by chance.  So this appeared to be a bone fide miracle.

Except (and this is what I want to share with you), I was taught by my teacher this event was considered to be a Lesser Miracle.

My teacher explained to me that there are two types of Miracles.  A Lesser one and a Greater one.

He continued explaining that the Greater Miracle is a day when nothing goes wrong. No loss of income, no loss of health, no loss of relationships, etc. The perfect day. This is the Greater Miracle. When nothing happens that calls for a Lesser Miracle to occur. Yet mankind does not view this perfection as a Miracle. He said that if everyone understood this concept, everyone would be in a constant state of appreciation and gratitude to the Creator/God/Cosmos, etc.

And this elevated state and understanding changes our behavior to others and ourselves.

I loved this lesson.
