Like all of you, I’m trying to make sense of the new rules of engagement.

I was born a year after WW2 ended. So I never experienced the war mentality experience that my parents went through. But it struck me last night that what we are now going through is another World War. Only this time, the enemy is not an ideology or a country or, in fact, a human being. This Virus is the enemy and the sooner we get into this mindset the better. In the same way my parents made sacrifices (conscription, rationing both gas and food, etc.), we need to understand that this new set of rules of engagement are a fact of life, just as it was for them.

And this time, it is a real World War. It’s the World vs. the Virus, and the World is in it together against a common enemy. So we all have to do what we can to defeat it.

No more patriotism, but worldism.

As in the Second World War, leadership was key to survival. For example, FDR was a great wartime leader. He was cool, thoughtful, candid, truthful and inspirational.

How does our leadership stack up to him?

The most obvious and critical is the leader of the Free World, America.

Be honest with yourself. In this new mindset, who better fits this role: Trump, Biden or Sanders?

A critical decision come November.

And the unfortunate part of the new dilemma is that this may be the first of these types of invasions. So infrastructure and supplies and readiness will be de rigeur for the next one. And the next leader(s) must help to guide us through this true paradigm shift.

Be well,
Syd
